धारा 284
Summary trial by Magistrate of second class
The High Court may confer on any Magistrate invested with the powers of a Magistrate of the second class power to try summarily any offence which is punishable only with fine or with imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months with or without fine, and any abetment of or attempt to commit any such offence.

द्वितीय-श्रेणी के मजिस्ट्रेट सामान्यतः सबसे कम गंभीर मामलों से निपटते हैं। यह प्रावधान उच्च न्यायालय को यह सुविधा देता है कि अत्यल्प गम्भीर अपराधों में उन्हें भी सार-संक्षेप विचारण का शॉर्टकट लागू कर दे, ताकि मजिस्ट्रेसी के निचले पायदान पर भी छोटे मामले त्वरित रूप से सुलझें और तंत्र जाम न हो।
