Frequently asked questions
Is the legal text on Samvidhan authentic?
The bare text is reproduced from open datasets of the official consolidated editions and programmatically cross-checked against the Legislative Department's official PDF — the current match report is public on the Methodology page. For court filings or compliance, always verify against the official Gazette editions.
What does “AI-assisted” mean?
Plain-language explainers, stories, ELI5 rewrites, case summaries, quiz questions and news articles are drafted by AI, pass automated validation, and are labelled until editorially reviewed. The exact legal text is never AI-written or paraphrased.
Is Samvidhan legal advice?
No. It is an educational reference. Nothing here creates an advocate–client relationship. For real matters, consult a qualified advocate.
Is reading the law free?
Yes, permanently — every provision of the Constitution, BNS, BNSS, BSA and IPC, plus judgments, amendments, schedules and the glossary. The printable cheat-sheets and chapter practice papers at /downloads are free too, with no account needed. Paid plans cover advanced exam-prep features and the developer API.
Can I read Samvidhan in Hindi or Marathi?
Yes. Use the language switcher (English · हिन्दी · मराठी) and the site — provision text and titles, plain-language explainers, case summaries, current affairs and practice questions — appears in that language wherever a translation exists; anything not yet translated stays in English rather than breaking the page. The official Constitution text is verified; machine-assisted translations carry a “verification pending” note until an editor approves them. More languages can be added without a code change.
How do I cancel, get a refund, or contact you?
Cancel any time from your account — access runs to the end of the paid period, with no pro-rata refund for a partial period (full policy at /cancellation-refund). For anything else — support, grievances or business enquiries — see /contact; we acknowledge within 24 hours.
Where can I download the BNS / BNSS / BSA / IPC bare act PDF?
At /downloads, or directly at /print/bns, /print/bnss, /print/bsa, /print/ipc and /print/coi for the Constitution. Each is the complete text of the act — free, no sign-up, and generated from the statute text, so it is selectable and searchable rather than a scan. Hit 'Download as PDF' (or your browser's Save as PDF) to keep a copy. You can also download a single chapter or a single section the same way.
Can I print and share the cheat-sheets?
Yes. Every sheet at /downloads — the bare acts, the complete IPC → BNS map, Fundamental Rights, all 106 amendments, the twelve Schedules, the glossary and the chapter practice papers — is free to print, photocopy and hand out, including inside a classroom or a coaching centre. We only ask that you leave the attribution on. Open a sheet and choose 'Save as PDF' in the print dialog to get a file you can forward.
Can I share a section or a judgment as an image?
Yes. Every section, judgment, article and IPC → BNS mapping has a Share button that generates a clean image with a QR code back to the page — made to be forwarded on WhatsApp or Telegram. Hovering any individual clause also gives you a 'Quote' button that turns just that passage into a quote card, and a judgment's key principle can be shared the same way.
Can I embed a provision on my own site?
Yes, free and without an API key. Every provision page has an 'Embed' button that gives you an iframe snippet, or use samvidhan.co.in/embed/{act}/{number} directly — for example /embed/bns/103. It shows the section, its title and a plain-language line, and links back to the full text.
What does it cost?
Reading the law is free forever — every provision, judgment, amendment and the glossary, no account needed. Prep Plus is ₹149/month or ₹699/year and unlocks timed mock papers, spaced repetition, the full question bank and weak-area analytics. The developer API starts at ₹499/month. Full breakdown at /pricing.
Which exams does the prep section cover?
UPSC (Polity), Judicial Services and CLAT. Questions are tagged per exam, link back to the actual provision, and wrong answers return on a spaced-repetition schedule. Mock papers simulate timed exam conditions.
What is the IPC → BNS converter?
A side-by-side equivalence table mapping old Indian Penal Code sections to their Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 successors — the transition every 2026 aspirant is tested on. Each mapping is sanity-checked against both section texts.
How current is the data?
An automated pipeline re-fetches sources, hashes every record and writes only what changed — when the law changes, the site follows without manual editing. The last sync date is shown on the Methodology page.
How do I get API access?
Create a key at /account/api and subscribe to a plan at /developers. The API is a paid product — there is no free tier. Keys activate the moment your plan is active.
Can I use the API commercially?
Yes, on the Startup plan or higher. Bulk redistribution of the raw dataset as a competing API or database is not permitted — see the Terms of Service.
