धारा 265
repealedFraudulent use of false weight or measure
Whoever, fraudulently uses any false weight or false measure of length or capacity, or fraudulently uses any weight or any measure of length or capacity as a different weight or measure from what it is, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.

यह धारा स्वयं झूठे बाट और मापों (जैसे ‘एक किलोग्राम’ का बाट जो वास्तव में हल्का हो) को, झूठे तौल-यंत्रों से अलग रखते हुए, कवर करती है। यह इस बात को भी कवर करती है कि सही बाट का भी बेईमानी से उपयोग किया जाए—उदाहरण के लिए आधा किलोग्राम के बाट को पूरा किलोग्राम बताना—ताकि वह छिद्र बंद हो जाए जिसमें औज़ार असली हो पर उसका उपयोग छलपूर्वक किया जाए। आधुनिक समय में बाट-माप का विनियमन मुख्यतः Legal Metrology Act, 2009 के अंतर्गत आता है। IPC को Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 द्वारा प्रतिस्थापित कर दिया गया है, जो 1 July 2024 से प्रभावी है।
