Petition of appeal
Every appeal shall be made in the form of a petition in writing presented by the appellant or his advocate, and every such petition shall (unless the Court to which it is presented otherwise directs) be accompanied by a copy of the judgment or order appealed against.

ही कोणत्याही अपीलासाठी औपचारिक प्रारंभबिंदू निश्चित करणारी मूलभूत प्रक्रिया-नियम आहे — स्पष्ट, लेखी अर्ज, आणि त्याला आधार देणारा संबंधित निर्णय/आदेश यांची जोड; यामुळे अपील न्यायालयाला तत्काळ कळते की नेमके काय आणि का आव्हान दिले आहे. हा नियम दंड प्रक्रिया संहिता, 1973 मधील कलम 382 चा पुढील विस्तार आहे.
