Statements conducing to public mischief

हे का आहे

This section is designed to prevent the spread of dangerous misinformation — whether it threatens military discipline, incites public panic, or fuels communal or caste hatred — recognizing that false rumours (especially online) can trigger real-world violence. The heavier punishment for offences at religious sites reflects the added risk of communal violence in such settings, while the good-faith exception protects honest reporting and belief.

सामान्य गृहितके
  • धरण: Simply forwarding a message someone else wrote can never make you liable.

घटना: Circulating a false or alarming statement — even one you did not originally create — can attract this offence if you shared it knowing or likely knowing it would provoke fear, mutiny, or communal hatred, unless you had reasonable grounds to believe it was true and shared it in good faith.
