Section 520
Trials before High Courts
When an offence is tried by the High Court otherwise than under observe if it were trying the case.
Why this exists
High Courts occasionally exercise original criminal jurisdiction, trying certain offences directly rather than only hearing appeals from Sessions Courts. Provisions of this kind exist to ensure that such original trials before the High Court follow a clear, established procedure, giving the accused the same essential protections as any other criminal trial. It corresponds to a section found near the end of the erstwhile CrPC's provisions on irregular proceedings and limitation, though the exact wording available in this record is incomplete.
