Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023

Section 330

No formal proof of certain documents

Why this exists

This provision, from Section 294 of the old CrPC and tightened in BNSS with a firm thirty-day deadline, speeds up trials by avoiding unnecessary formal proof of documents both sides already accept are genuine, cutting down on repetitive expert appearances and procedural delay.

Common misconceptions
  • Myth: A party can stay silent about a document forever without any deadline.
Fact: BNSS sets a general thirty-day window to admit or deny a document's genuineness, though courts can extend it for reasons recorded in writing.
