Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023
Section 307
Language of Courts
The State Government may determine what shall be, for purposes of this Sanhita, the language of each Court within the State other than the High Court.
Why this exists
India has many languages, and a single national rule would not suit every state's linguistic context. This provision lets each State Government fix the working language of its subordinate criminal courts, ensuring proceedings happen in a language accessible to the local population, while High Courts (which often function in English alongside regional languages) are left out of this particular rule.
