Section 302

Power to require attendance of prisoners

Why this exists

Courts sometimes need someone who is already in custody, whether as an accused in another matter or simply as a witness, physically present to proceed with a case. This provision creates the legal mechanism to compel a prison to produce that person, while requiring senior-magistrate oversight when a junior magistrate issues the order, guarding against unnecessary or excessive orders to move prisoners in and out of jail.
