Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023

Section 286

Negligent conduct with respect to poisonous substance

Why this exists

Poisonous substances — pesticides, industrial chemicals, certain medicines — pose serious risks if handled or stored carelessly, especially around children or unsuspecting people. This section, continuing the old IPC Section 284, requires anyone possessing such substances to take reasonable safety measures, and punishes both reckless acts involving poison and negligent failure to secure it properly.
